Privacy Policy

This page explains what data TOA11Y collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and what rights you have over it. It is written in plain language on purpose — a privacy policy nobody can read is not a privacy policy.

Effective date: [DATE] Last updated: [DATE] Applies to: toa11y.com

The short version

  • We collect only the information you give us through the audit request form, the contact form, and the newsletter signup.
  • We use it to reply to you and deliver the services you asked for. Nothing else.
  • We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not run tracking pixels.
  • We use privacy-respecting analytics that do not track you across sites and do not set cookies.
  • You can ask us what we have on you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — and we will.

01 Who we are

TOA11Y is a small web development studio that audits and rebuilds websites for accessibility and performance. The studio is operated by a single engineer and is based in [JURISDICTION]. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR, TOA11Y is the data controller for personal data collected through toa11y.com.

If you have any question about this policy or about how we handle your data, you can reach us using the contact details in section 13.

02 What we collect

We collect the minimum amount of data needed to answer your request and deliver the services you ask for. Here is exactly what that looks like.

Where What we collect Why
Audit request form Name, email address, website URL, request type, optional notes To reply to your request and scope the work
Contact form Name, email address, message To reply to your message
Newsletter signup Email address To send you the weekly teardown, if you asked for it
Server logs IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, timestamp Security, abuse prevention, and diagnosing errors
Cookies Session cookie and CSRF token Required for the site's forms to work and to prevent cross-site request forgery

What we do not collect

We do not collect payment card data on this site. We do not use tracking pixels, fingerprinting scripts, or advertising cookies. We do not buy or scrape personal data from third parties. We do not collect any special category data (such as health, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, or political opinions).

03 How we use it

We use the data we collect for exactly four purposes:

  • To reply to you. If you send us a message or request an audit, we use your contact details to answer you.
  • To deliver the services you asked for. If you hire us, we use the information you give us to do the work.
  • To send the newsletter. Only if you subscribed, and only until you unsubscribe.
  • To keep the site secure. Server logs help us detect abuse, block attacks, and diagnose errors.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, automated decision-making, or any purpose you did not ask for. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone except the service providers listed in section 6.

04 Legal basis for processing

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under Article 6 of the GDPR:

  • Contract — to respond to your audit request and deliver services you have engaged us for.
  • Consent — to send you the newsletter. You can withdraw this at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email.
  • Legitimate interest — to keep the site secure, prevent abuse, and maintain server logs. We have weighed our interest against your rights and believe the impact on you is minimal.

We do not rely on consent for anything other than the newsletter. If you would like more detail about our legitimate-interest assessment, contact us.

05 Cookies

This site uses only the cookies it needs to function. That means:

  • Session cookie — set by Django to keep your session state while you browse. Expires when you close your browser.
  • CSRF token — set by Django to protect the forms on this site from cross-site request forgery. Required for security.

No analytics cookies

We use [ANALYTICS PROVIDER] for site analytics. It does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not collect any personally identifiable information. Because of this, no cookie banner is required — and you will not find one on this site.

If you prefer to block even the essential cookies, you can do so in your browser settings. The site will still load, but the contact and audit request forms may not work correctly.

06 Third-party services

We keep the number of third parties to an absolute minimum. The only services that may process your data are:

  • [HOSTING PROVIDER] — the servers that run this site. They process server logs on our behalf.
  • [EMAIL SERVICE] — the service that delivers the newsletter and transactional emails (such as replies to your contact form).
  • [ANALYTICS PROVIDER] — privacy-first analytics that collect aggregated, non-identifying data.

Each of these providers is bound by a data processing agreement and is only permitted to use your data to provide their service to us. We do not use any advertising networks, retargeting services, social media pixels, or data brokers.

07 How long we keep it

We keep data only for as long as we need it. Specifically:

  • Audit and contact form submissions — retained for up to 24 months after our last exchange, then deleted. If you become a client, we retain project correspondence for the duration of the engagement and for the period required by our professional liability insurance and applicable tax law.
  • Newsletter subscriptions — retained until you unsubscribe, plus a short suppression record so we do not accidentally re-add you.
  • Server logs — retained for 30 days, then automatically deleted.

If you ask us to delete your data, we will do so within 30 days, unless we are legally required to keep it (for example, for tax or accounting purposes).

08 Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal data:

Your rights at a glance

  • Access — ask what we have on you and get a copy.
  • Correction — ask us to fix anything inaccurate.
  • Deletion — ask us to delete your data, subject to legal retention obligations.
  • Restriction — ask us to stop processing your data while a dispute is resolved.
  • Portability — ask for your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Withdraw consent — unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email us using the details in section 13. We will respond within 30 days. There is no charge. If you are in the EU or UK and are unhappy with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

If you are a California resident, you also have the right to know what categories of personal information we have collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of any “sale” of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

09 Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

  • TLS encryption for all traffic to and from this site
  • Hashed and salted password storage
  • Access controls limiting who on our side can see your data (in practice: one person)
  • Regular software updates and dependency audits

No website can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. If we ever become aware of a data breach that affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities within the timeframes required by law.

10 International transfers

Our servers are located in [JURISDICTION]. Some of the third-party services listed in section 6 may be located outside your country, including in the United States. When we transfer data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent mechanism.

11 Children

This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

12 Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email. We will not retroactively change how we handle data we have already collected without your consent.
